Iowa Health - Des Moines Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program

Iowa Health - Des Moines (IHDM) received formal approval for the opening of a Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency program in Des Moines in October 2009. The approval from the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) allowed IHDM to officially appoint its first podiatric medicine and surgery resident on November 1, 2009. The three-year program will ultimately provide training for three podiatric residents (one at each level) each academic year. IHDM joins Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge and Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo as the third podiatry residency program in Iowa.

K. Linda Bratkiewicz, D.P.M., a podiatrist with The Iowa Clinic, is director of the program. Roger Drown, D.P.M., a 2009 graduate of the College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Des Moines University, has been appointed as the first resident in the program. Quinn Turner from the Medical Education Services office at Iowa Methodist Medical Center serves as coordinator of the residency program and Angela Claytor provides staff support.

With the addition of the podiatric medicine and surgery residency, 90 residents will be training in the six IHDM residencies, which in addition to podiatry include family medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, and the transitional year.

The podiatric medicine and surgery residency at IHDM is designed to provide residents with a variety of clinical experiences over the course of their three-year tenure in the program. Please see the "Curriculum" tab for specific information on rotations.
